Ánimas Espadin is produced by mezcalero Luis Angeles Reyes in Santiago Matatlán, Tlacolula, Oaxaca using 100% agave Espadin. The agaves are harvested after 8 years and cooked in a conical ground oven, milled with a tahona, fermented in wooden vats, and double distilled in copper pot stills. This mezcal has aromas of sweet cooked agave. It’s flavors are sweet and herbal with smoky finish. Earlier batches of Ánimas Espadin were produced by mezcalero Leoncio Santiago Hernandez.
This is my favorite espadin, very smooth and easy to drink. Also light on the smoke and a nice sweetness on the finish. A great choice for new or experienced mezcal drinkers. I Highly Recommend
Funky for an espadin. Smell is on point, but hated the finish. Mediocre, strange
Enjoyable. Very sweet and not watery at 44%, an ABV level that is approachable. I get a bit of asparagus and celery juice along with cotton candy. Bottle 297/1333; lot ANE-01-A.
