Mezcal Ánimas Papalometl is produced by mezcalero Luis Angeles Reyes in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca using 100% agave Cupreata. The agaves are harvested after 8 years and cooked in a conical ground oven, milled with a tahona, fermented in wooden vats, and double distilled in copper pot stills. The nose is sweet with an herbal finish. On the palate, this mezcal is fresh, herbal and mentholated. Earlier batches of Ánimas Papalometl were produced by mezcalero Romualdo Martínez.
This Cupreata is one of the few Cupreatas from Oaxaca and one of the best mezcals I’ve ever had. It’s perfectly balanced with sweetness, smokiness and a peppery finish. I bought a bottle and went through it right away. Definitely a sipper. Enjoy!
TASTE: chocolate peppermint menthol. Starts minty, menthol and with further sips will continue to push towards mint chocolate.
Remembered this one being a bit chocolate-y, but this was the last taste of the night. Will see if this holds up next time I open up the bottle. Brought back from Mexico by a friend

A little nail polish/varnish on nose. Def. an herbal, chartreuse-like mid palate with a sweet, burning finish. Solid, but glad I bought the 8 oz bottle instead of a 750ml
