Del Maguey San Luis del Rio Azul is made with agave Azul, which is traditionally used only in Tequila. During the agave scarcity in 2000-2004, Jalisco truckers came down to Oaxaca to purchase Espadin, Paciano Cruz Nolasco, in order to sustain their tequila production. They brought with them baby Maguey Azul to plant in case there was ever another shortage. Seven years later this maguey Azul was mature and ready to be harvested. Azul has a distinctively creamy mouth feel with bright citrus notes of dried tropical fruit. A sweet green herbaceous, wet stone quality appears with a touch of white peppercorn and a medium long finish.

Walked through the garden tasting herbacious notes of green peppers off the stone with sweet citrus hints running through the layers ending with a nice mint finish. Loved this one from Del Maguey. If you like Chichicapa, I’d recommend this one.

SLR 125 as well. I didn’t experience the metallic taste, but get the not enough going on part. I’ve been drinking this against a couple of the del maguey espadins, It’s a bit smokier, not quite as smooth and a little too sweet. I’m glad I bought the bottle and don’t think it will linger on the shelf. I wonder if this is what Tequila was like before the big companies and their machines came to Jalisco. I also had a bit of Don Julio 1942 and reposado. Under the wood,…

Lot SLR 125. Aromas of green pepper and freshly fallen rain. This Mezcal is very rich iwth character that exudes notes of freshly ground pepper, cloves, and a bit of ripe tangerine. As a rare release, this is really delightful. It’s full flavor and extremely soft and balanced.

Del Maguey makes great mezcal, and this limited-edition blue agave mezcal is another delicious release. Sweet and fruity, the caramel agave taste is reminiscent of tequila (which is made from blue agave). Really enjoy the apple and berry notes in this mezcal. Lot 2012-5
