Gracias a Dios Gin was developed by students at Oaxaca State University. This spirit is somewhat unique as it’s made with agave Espadin, like the majority of other mezcals. Aside from a few differences, this spirit is made using the same process as any other mezcal. Distillation is one of the key differences. Gracias a Dios Gin is triple distilled, and during the additional third distillation, thirty-two hand picked botanicals are added to the liquid. A touch of juniper prevails over the other flavors, although notes of citric and fresh herbs arise from this as well.

Gracias A Dios Agave Gin (750ml)

GAD-G 1438, 45% ABV. Warmth, minerality, herbs & spices (lots of them), lavender flowers, licorice, juniper berries, smoke, agave sweetness, finishing with Chinese five-spice, baked agave, Lampong peppercorns, light smoke, and delicate sweetness. Three star rating qualifiers: subdued agave for one, and while infusions are not new in the mezcal world, this is an over-the-top novelty. However, it is also deserving of four stars for drinking straight enjoyment compared to grain based gins, and five stars for fun!

Enjoyable but not a lot of products to compare it to. From memory I enjoy the Pierde Almas gin more than this.. however, this gin is more of a mixer. Piney agave on the nose with soft spicy gin notes with underlying agave. Not quite the depth I’d like given the price. Still, an interesting release and a fun brand. Lot 02GADGIN – 1559.
