Lalocura Cuishe is made by Eduardo “Lalo” Angeles in Santa Catarina Minas. He mashes all of his cooked agave by hand with wooden mallets, and ferments in the open air using only natural yeasts. Santa Catarina Minas is known as one of the best places to find great clay pot distilled mezcal, and Lalo has quickly become renowned in the area. Similar to other producers in this area, the term Cuishe is used to describe an agave rhodacantha, which is what most other regions would call an agave Mexicano.

Took a dive into Lalo’s mezcal yesteday, had this after the Tobasiche and it did not disappoint, would need another taste to get into the flavor profile, but definitely turned me on to their mezcals, very well rounded. Also I’m curious if Cuishe and Mexicano are the same agave?

Ripe bananas and creme brûlée that transitions into wet leaves and dirt after the first taste. I think it is the clay distillation coming through. Very enjoyable. Lot 08. 4-4.5 stars

I forgot to write down the lot number for this one but it was absolutely brilliant!!! Very savory and complex, like an herbal liqueur. Caramel, clove, cinnamon, coconut, vanilla, allspice, flan, kalua, baileys, benedictine. So creamy!

Brown butter, herbs, and citrus. Finish is smooth like an infants bottom. Up there with Lalo’s best
